I see designers as also designing scenarios based on objects that will help people understand the consequences of their choices.

Born in South Korea, experienced China and British culture for two years, and living in Canada for seven years. My creativity benefits from my experience with cultural diversity. Meeting different kinds of people in various settings and environments threw me into practising cultural flexibility and adaptivity. It trained me to instinctively gather the human behavioural data and to expand this information into “why” and “how” of people. A habit of extensive observation and data gathering built the strong perspicacity quality of mine. I am keen on detecting peopleʼs needs and subtly communicating the flaws in the direction of self-growth.

Approach & Perspective

Design is communication. Design is collective minds moving forward to shape the promising future. Designers build a visual structure where the social publics come to expand the democratic modern. ‘Positive Impactʼ is the main goal for design. It is all-inclusive of the public and private sphere and emerges discourses that encompass all counter-publics. Thinking about sustainability and taking responsibilities from previous mistakes while keeping the stylistic hierarchy and effective visual delivery.

To make a successful design, a designer must understand the individual – oneʼs history, passion, interests, emotional connections – and know the mass – social structure and hierarchy, mass behaviour and ideology. From thorough research, designers need to understand the population they deliver visual products toward. Target audience research provides a firm foundation for a highly interactive and communicative design that primarily considers people.

When I design, I tend to research what is in-need in this world, what people want, and need. I discover what messages I should share and how to resonate with others. I question how to help the world environmentally and socio-culturally. Uncover if certain matters need further awareness, and see how my design can prevent/support/fix the issue. Since it starts from a current existing problem the design outcome is relevant to the present day.

The process of finding the solution also makes the design much dynamic and in depth, as the process can take a different route than what I intended in the first place. Small to big design decisions form the backbone of the design structure. Without trials there canʼt be a good design. While designing, I consider: Is my design primarily thinking of the user? Is it interactive? Is my product useful? Is my design well approachable within media/technology the mass is in tuned? And is it engaging? Is the visual hierarchy legible?

Further into this profession, I desire to challenge my creativity and skills to implement better ideas, solve complex problems, create a movement within society, culture, economy, and environment. Collaboration with other creative professionals and various experts – with effective use of communication, in conjunction with individual differences that complement and support one another – will help us to produce optimal results.
